Guest of honour launching the NetKad
In line with JTB's mission to provide a full range of
high quality info-communication services at a competitive
price to meet the social and economic aspiration of
the government and the people of Brunei Darussalam,
JTB yesterday has introduced yet another new device
'NetKad'. The launching was officiated by the Minister
of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato
Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria b Dato Mahawangsa Awang
Haji Sulaiman, at the Dewan Muzakarah, International
Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.
"This service is
an additional value-added service to the existing BruNet
service, an alternative way for customers to get access
to the Internet without having to open an account with
BruNet. With NetKad, customers will be able to access
the Internet by using their personal computer, modem and
telephone line just like the BruNet dial-up," said
Awg Haji Buntar Osman, Director of JTB.
To access, the
customers simply dial in the access number 1-800-98888,
key in the 'User ID' and 'Password' which needs to be
scratched from a silver strip on the back of the card,
into a dial up configuration form. To know the cards
expiry date, customers can check on-line at the 'NetKad'
website, http://www.netkad.com.bn/ by entering their
User ID.
The 'NetKad' is also a
great value for money to the tourist and business
travelers alike especially with the upcoming APEC 2000
Summit in November and the Visit Brunei Year 2001. The
Telecom department hopes that 'Netkad' could be of use
to the visitors allowing them access to emails and to
retrieve any information needed from the respective
websites. Another advantage of the Netkad is to enable
customers to limit their usage within budget limit so
there will be no surprises in paying the bills at the
end of the month. The Netkad still uses the traditional
Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) infrastructure
for local access.
KPF Comserve will be the official distributor
of the Netkad as NetKad is a project joint-ventured by JTB and the company.
KPF Comserve is also responsible for appointing local agents to distribute the
cards. Currently Netkads can be found in 50 local agencies in Brunei. These
cards are available with the price denominations of $15 for 15 hours, validity
a month. $30 for 30 hours and $50 for 60 hours, validity until 3 months after
first usage.
